HIV Test and Treat: Are the 90 - 90 - 90 targets set for 2020 within reach?
Online-Bulletin of the MMS/aidsfocus.ch conference of 10 May 2017
The UNAIDS-promoted 90-90-90 strategy for testing and therapy has set an ambitious target, especially when we consider that an estimated 37 million people are HIV-positive and only half of them have access to drug therapy. This is partly because some of these people do not know their HIV-status; however, it is also because in a large number of countries access to treatment is still only partially available or not at all. We are facing a double challenge: adequate treatment only becomes possible when someone knows their HIV-status, and access to this treatment must be safeguarded.
This issue of the MMS Bulletin unites some of the challenges and key aspects discussed at this years MMS/aidsfocus.ch conference to reach the ambitious 90-90-90 target set by UNAIDS by 2020.
