Successful peer-recruited project shows it is possible to do prevention work with gay men in hostile environments
aidsmap.com, 15 January 2015 - Behavour change interventions are possible even among gay men in hostile environments as a study conducted in St Petersburg in Russia and Budapest in Hungary showed.
he study comprised of 626 gay men and other men who have sex with men (MSM) and took place in a community education and HIV prevention project between 2006 - 2012. The probands were devided into two groups. All participants had access to HIV and STI testing and received a basic counselling. The participants who were idendified as "leaders" received an intensified training on HIV prevention. In this group a significant fall in indicators of sexual risk could be stated.
