«Positiv im Leben stehen» est un petit livre magnifique et émouvant dans lequel sont racontées des histoires d’adolescent-e-s vivant avec le VIH/sida. Un document d’une grande profondeur, ces filles et garçons ayant été confrontés très tôt à des questions existentielles cruciales du fait d’un diagnostic de séropositivité. Un texte d’une grande force également, car toutes et tous ont décidé de prendre leur vie en main et d’aller de l’avant avec un état d’esprit positif. Mais un document témoignant aussi de la vulnérabilité de ces jeunes femmes et hommes, dépeignant leur quotidien, leurs questions et leurs doutes, leurs aspirations et leur besoin d’affection et d’amour.

L’idée de «Positiv im Leben stehen» est née dans le cadre de la rencontre organisée par Le sida & L’Enfant pour et avec des adolescent-e-s vivant avec le VIH. Les adolescent-e-s eux-mêmes ont contribué à l’élaboration de ce livre. Il s’agit d’un petit bijou, d’un cadeau que nous font ces jeunes gens – un très beau cadeau à transmettre à nos ami-e-s et connaissances à l’occasion de Noël.

HIV-positiv und trotzdem positiv im Leben stehen: Das ist eine enorme Herausforderung – besonders für Kinder und Jugendliche. Darüber berichten Betroffene in diesem Buch auf ihre ganz persönliche Weise. Ihre Biografie ist meist keine einfache. Seit der Geburt angesteckt haben viele ihre Mutter bereits in den ersten Lebensjahren verloren. Und sie stehen einer Gesellschaft gegenüber, die kranke Menschen oft ausgrenzt – aus falscher Angst!

Das Buch ist im Rahmen der von Aids & Kind organisierten „Treffen Jugendlicher, die mit HIV leben“, entstanden. In Bildern und Texten stellen die Jugendlichen ihre Lebensfreude wie ihre Ängste dar. Aids ist immer noch unheilbar, dank moderner Medikamente aber nicht mehr tödlich. Kranke haben dadurch eine neue Lebensperspektive. aidsfocus.ch soutient l’action d’Amnesty International sur le droit à la santé et contre la violence envers les femmes en Afrique du Sud dans le contexte du VIH/sida et de la pauvreté. Cinquante-cinq pour cent des plus de 5 millions de personnes infectées par le VIH en Afrique du Sud sont des femmes. Leur dépendance socio-économique et la violence liée au genre ont contribué à ce taux. Les femmes séropositives, surtout si elles vivent en milieu rural, n’ont souvent pas accès aux soins. Faith-Based Organisations (FBOs) play much a greater role in HIV/AIDS care and treatment in sub-Saharan especially. Yet by and large, the responses of FBO towards the global HIV epidemic have generally lacked sufficient urgency and commitment. This is especially so in the field of HIV prevention, and in combating the stigma, denial and discrimination that are often attached to HIV andAIDS. “We don’t have right to give up because we are called to promote life rather than death.” (Emery Mpwate Munfu, Mission 21, 2 December 2008)

Erfahrungen aus einem Programm für HIV-positive Kinder und Mütter in Tansania: Aus kinderärztlicher Sicht liegt der Hauptfokus eines HIV-Programms in der Vorbeugung der Mutter-Kind-Übertragung (prevention of mother to child transmission, PMTCT), da damit die Neuansteckung eines Kindes mit all ihren gesundheitlichen, sozialen und ökonomischen Folgen verhindert werden kann. Als eine der ersten Massnahmen im Aufbau des Programms wurde eine routinemässige HIV-Testung der schwangeren Frauen in der vorgeburtlichen Vorsorgeklinik (Antenatal Clinic, ANC) eingeführt.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) a démontré au Mozambique et au Cameroun, qu’il est possible de soigner, dans un pays à forte prévalence, les malades du sida avec d’aussi bons résultats que dans les pays du Nord. Toutefois, l’adhérence au traitement, c’est- à-dire la prise régulière de médicaments est encore difficile. Presque un tiers des patients l’abandonnent en court de route. Des soins trop éloignés des lieux de résidence et/ou trop compliqués en découragent beaucoup. Le soutien psycho-social tient une place importante dans l’adhérence des patients à leur tri-thérapie. Genève, 28 novembre 2008 – A l’occasion du 20ème anniversaire de la première célébration de la Journée mondiale sida, un nouveau rapport de l’ONUSIDA appelle les pays à réaligner leurs programmes de prévention du VIH en comprenant comment les infections à VIH les plus récentes ont été transmises, et les raisons pour lesquelles elles se sont produites. «Cette approche contribuera non seulement à prévenir les 1000 infections suivantes dans chaque communauté, mais elle fera également travailler de manière plus efficace l’argent disponible pour le sida et aidera à proposer une riposte au sida sur le long terme et durable,» a déclaré le Directeur exécutif de l’ONUSIDA, le Dr Peter Piot.

1. novembre 2008 - Les leaders religieux doivent "crier sur tous les toits que le SIDA n'est pas un châtiment divin, mais un état de santé que l'on peut éviter", a déclaré l'archevêque Njongo Ndungane, ancien leader de l'Eglise anglicane d'Afrique du Sud, dans le cadre de la Campagne mondiale contre le SIDA. Il a ajouté : "Les responsables religieux doivent donc s'engager à œuvrer pour parvenir à une génération sans SIDA, et offrir un accompagnement et un soutien dévoués aux personnes infectées."

1. December, 2008 - Daily we hear about the horrific conditions in Zimbabwe. In the past three weeks, the complete collapse of public health system and sanitation infrastructure has developed into a major cholera epidemic, which has not only extended to the entire country but also into South Africa. Essential medicines are not available to treat diseases that the government's gross negligence has exacerbated. Antiretroviral therapy for HIV/AIDS patients and TB treatment has been severely disrupted. Urgent action by the international community is needed.

Dakar, 7 December 2008 - The 15th International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa (ICASA) 2008 closed with a strong message: youth are essential in the response to AIDS in Africa, especially those living with HIV. Ms Souadou N'Doye, a young Senegalese, spoke on behalf of all young Africans and urged those in attendance to ensure that young people are involved in the design of HIV programmes. She asked governments and partners to utilize the talents of young people from each country. Without young people, she stressed the AIDS response is incomplete. "All that is done for us, but without us, is against us," she said.

Washington, DC, 26 November 2008 – The HIV/AIDS Implementers’ Meeting will take place June 10-14, 2009 in Windhoek, Namibia. This year’s theme is “Optimizing the Response: Partnerships for Sustainability.” The meeting gathers together program implementers to share best practices and lessons learned in the fight against global HIV/AIDS. This year’s meeting will focus on widely disseminating best practices and lessons learned during the implementation of multi-sectoral HIV/AIDS programs with a emphasis on optimizing the impact of prevention, care and treatment programs; enhancing program quality; promoting coordination among partners; and encouraging innovative responses. Johannesburg, 20 November 2008 - A ground-breaking South African study has provided the first hard evidence that treating HIV-positive babies with antiretroviral (ARV) medicines from as early as six weeks dramatically improves their chances of survival. The study, conducted in Cape Town and Soweto, Johannesburg's largest township found that infants started on ARV therapy immediately after diagnosis were 76 percent less likely to die than those who began treatment only after displaying clinical symptoms. Early treatment also greatly reduced the progression of disease. The WHO, the US and several European countries have already revised their guidelines for treating HIV-infected infants. (PlusNews)

Perspectives sida est un nouveau rapport de l’ONUSIDA qui apporte un éclairage sur certains problèmes parmi les plus pressants auxquels seront confrontés les décideurs et les leaders dans leur riposte aux défis que présente le sida en 2009. A bien des égards, l’année qui vient sera une année de transition – et d’accélération. Nombreux sont les pays qui réexaminent leurs stratégies nationales de lutte contre le sida. Bien que l’engagement politique dans le domaine du sida soit plus déterminé que jamais, les récents développements dans le monde de la finance constitueront pour beaucoup un test de cette détermination. According to a United Nations report titled "Children and AIDS" and published for World AIDS Day, the number of pregnant women receiving antiretrovirals in low- and middle-income countries has tripled in the past three years. In addition, increased donor interest and funding has made such gains even more impressive in some countries. This Third Stocktaking Report examines data on progress, emerging evidence, and current knowledge and practice for children as they relate to four programme areas, and it calls for several focused, concrete, achievable actions that can significantly improve prospects for children and women and help nations move towards their goals. This publication from UNIFEM highlights approaches and examples that ensure that the three principles promote and protect gender equality as a key element in strategies to prevent and treat HIV and AIDS. The first chapter examines why gender equality and women’s human rights are central to the principles of the “Three Ones.” The next three chapters cover each of the principles, analyzing proposed entry points for integrating gender equality and women’s rights. The final chapter contains recommendations on strengthening gender equality in AIDS actions and strategies. (2008)

UNAIDS launched a new regional report that looks at the vulnerability of women and girls in Southern Africa to HIV. Almost two-thirds of all young people with HIV live in sub-Saharan Africa where about 75% of all infections among young people aged 15 to 24 years are among young women. The factors that are driving the current epidemic in southern Africa include the practice of age disparate and intergenerational sex; biological vulnerability of young women; economic empowerment; education and gender-based violence. A final paper examines the complex interaction between environmental factors and individual choices, behaviours and community norms. (December 2008)

An HIV mainstreaming toolkit for development and humanitarian response workers. HIV mainstreaming must be applied to wider development and humanitarian response programmes if these are to remain effective and do no harm in contexts affected by HIV and AIDS.
