DAS ELEKTRONISCHE BULLETIN DER SCHWEIZERISCHEN FACHPLATTFORM HIV/AIDS UND INTERNATIONALE ZUSAMMENARBEIT

No one left behind!

Liebe aidsfocus Leserinnen und Leser

Strafgefangene und HIV sind ein vernachlässigtes und wenig bekanntes Thema.  Auch während der Literatursuche zu dieser Thematik bin ich auf wenige Informationen gestossen. Jedoch ist klar, HIV und andere sexuell übertragbare Krankheiten sind in Gefängnissen ein grosses Problem. Weltweit sind schätzungsweise 10 Millionen Menschen pro Jahr n Gefängnissen inhaftiert und rund 30 Millionen der Gefangenen wechseln zwischen Inhaftierung und Wiederfreilassung. Der Hauptanteil der Inhaftierten befindet sich in den Gefängnissen  Russlands, Chinas und der Vereinigten Staaten. Die HIV-Prävalenz in den Gefängnissen wird 2 - 10mal höher geschätzt als die in der allgemeinen erwachsenen Bevölkerung.

Die Hauptübertragungswege sind bekannt: Der Drogenkonsum ist hoch und saubere Nadeln ein Luxus, ungeschützter Geschlechtsverkehr die Regel, da kaum Kondome verteilt werden und das Anbringen von Tattoos mit infizierten Nadeln ist vor allem in Russland ein typischer Brauch unter Inhaftieren.

Genaue Zahlen zur HIV Rate und zur Behandlung gibt es keine, was nicht heisst, dass die Bemühungen um Prävention, freiwilliges Testen und Behandlung vernachlässigt werden dürfen! Eine sehr schwierige Aufgabe, vor allem wenn man bedenkt, dass der Zugang zu Gefängnissen sehr oft erschwert und unerwünscht ist.
