17. April 2012 AIDSFOCUS.CH CONFERENCE 2012: HIV, AIDS AND ADVOCACY. BRINGING ABOUT CHANGE IN POLICIES AND PRACTICE

Berne | Support groups of people living with HIV turn more and more into advocacy groups to stand up for their interests and their rights. The Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) in South Africa has played a crucial role in the countrys AIDS response, and is well known beyond the South African borders as a model of successful advocacy and activism. Advocacy is a key component in the struggle towards an AIDSfree future and the fulfilment of the right to health for all. The aidsfocus.ch conference 2012 will focus on advocacy and open a space for sharing, discussion and joint learning on experiences, visions and strategies to end the epidemic.

18. April 2012 HIV/AIDS UND MIGRATION. ZWEI HERAUSFORDERUNGEN DER ENTWICKLUNGSZUSAMMENARBEIT IN TANSANIA

Basel | Armut, fehlende Perspektiven und Gewalt bringen viele Menschen dazu, ihren Heimatort zu verlassen. Die tansanische NGO Nelico arbeitet in der Region Geita, die bekannt ist für ihre Goldminen. Die Hoffnung auf gutes Einkommen im Umfeld dieser lukrativen Branche zieht viele junge Leute an. Paulina Alex, Direktorin der Organisation Nelico spricht über die Praxis der Entwicklungszusammenarbeit, aktuelle Herausforderungen und Lösungsansätze.

19. April 2012 THE POTENTIAL OF ADVOCACY IN IMPROVING THE LIVES OF PEOPLE WITH HIV AND AIDS

Basel | People living with HIV and AIDS are successfully utilising advocacy methods in order to achieve better medical treatment and to reduce stigma in society. Success stories in a number of African countries show the potential of HIV and AIDS related activism even in countries with little democratic space for citizen participation.

Eduard Grebe from the AIDS and Society Research Unit of the University of Cape Town will share his findings on the crucial role played by the South African Treatment Action Campaign. Joshua Mavundu, the advocacy officer of BHASO, a Zimbabwean HIV and AIDS service will speak about his practical experience.

Zürich | Was müssen Fachleute, die in der Entwicklungszusammenarbeit tätig sind über antiretrovirale Therapien wissen, um entsprechende Programme leiten zu können? Was müssen moderne Lösungen zur HIV/Aids-Problematik berücksichtigen? Im Zentrum der Reflexion mit Romy Mathys steht HIV/Aids als internationales Gesundheitsphänomen mit innovativen Lösungsansätzen.

Feierabendgespräch mit Helena Zweifel (aidsfocus.ch/NGO), Markus Frei (Arzt mit Afrikaerfahrung), Thomas Wägli (Pharmazeutische Firmen) und David Haerry (Aktivist) stellen die wichtigsten Strategien vor. Welche haben sich bewährt, welche weniger? Wo stehen wir heute in der Bekämpfung von HIV/Aids?
